Signs of Life

Uggh…

Well, 24 hours ago at this time I was drifting off to la la land, and now here I am at the mac, wearing a gauze mustache and trying not to overdose on Hydrocodone. Woo hoo!

Surgery went well…Removed giant sinus polyp, removed a lot of bone from my deviated septum, and opened up my lower turbinates. Since they didn’t have to pack my sinuses I can actually feel like I am breathing better through my nose already! Dr Seth Cohen at Duke Voice Care Center did the surgery. He and Dr David Witsell are amazing, and have a large clientelle of national voice people such as James Earl Jones, Chris Brown, and Kelly Clarkson as clients. I put my livelihood in their hands, and I figure I’m in good company!

Surgery went about 2 hours, then I was in recovery for about an hour and a half. Funny but embarassing story regarding coming out of anesthesia. As I was waking up, a large black dude was helping move me onto the stretcher from the OR table. He was the first person I saw as I was waking up, and I smiled at him and said, “Hey, it’s Randy Jackson!” I’m sure that was the last thing he expected to hear…Dr Cohen explained to him that I was in a Journey tribute band, and that I wasn’t being a smartass…

Tuesday I go back to Duke for follow up, but until then I can’t bend over or lift more than five pounds, so that puts me out of commish for quite a few things.

Elsewhere, I’m halfway through Steve Kurutz’s book Like A Rolling Stone, where Steve outlines a year spent on the road with two Rolling Stones tribute bands, Sticky Fingers and Blushing Brides. It’s an interesting read, made even more so by the fact that Frontiers has played in some of those exact frat houses over the past couple of years. Check out the book for an informative read on behind the scenes with a tribute band! We’re not all like the ones portrayed in the book, but it’s a fun read regardless…

Also touched bases with my buddy Eric Ragno, who is back from a tour with Graham Bonnet overseas. Eric and I are going to be kicking some more tunes together over the next couple months and see if we can put together a record by the end of the year. Also looking forward to possibly collaborating with one of my favorite songwriters, John Spinks on a song for the project. Now if I could convince Jonathan Cain to produce the record, that would be all I could hope for!

Also got word today from a dance music producer in the UK I had done some voice work for last year regarding a Journey remix that the song has been picked up by a label, and will see a major UK release sometime later this year, with a possible US release to follow!

So things are staying busy….Got to get back to the couch now. Have a great week everyone!
